Whether you consider buying a Sage burr coffee grinder or a less expensive grinder will depend on how OCD you are about refining everything to get the absolute most perfect possible coffee that you can get.
This grinder is not cheap. There are many less expensive ones out there. However, this coffee grinder will provide you with many things that other coffee grinders simply cannot do.
If you REALLY want to find a way to replicate the coffee you get at Costa, Starbucks, Café Nero etc then you need to replicate as close as possible the equipment that they use.
To get the best possible results you need to get a burr grinder. A burr grinder crushes the beans as opposed to chopping the beans with a blade grinder.
A burr grinder will give you the consistency of size for your coffee particles which is important in order to get the correct extraction and therefore optimum flavour.
A blade grinder will simply chop up the coffee beans into various different sizes.

Sage is known for their top end, highly designed coffee machines but what about the grinder?
This does not disappoint. It really is stunning. A thing of beauty.
This is the Van Gogh of the coffee grinder world. We absolutely love it.
If you are going to go for one of Sages espresso machines without a built-in grinder such as the duo temp pro then in our opinion this grinder is an absolute must.
For something that grinds coffee beans, a disproportionate amount of thought has gone into how the machine looks and we love that.
An all brushed stainless steel body blends perfectly into a black plastic base which matches exactly with the deigns of Sage’s various coffee machines. The clear plastic bean hopper that sits on top of the machine complements the look and feel of the whole grinder.
Nothing has been overlooked here all the way down to a lovely digital display with black writing on a light blue background.
Functionality 10/10
The small things that this grinder has are what makes the difference and is what you pay for.
It is suggested that the perfect cup of coffee should contain around 8 grams of coffee. Depending on the type of coffee machine that you use, the grind time to get 8 grams will vary.
You can use coarser coffee for a filter machine and you need a finer grind for an espresso machine. It will take less time to grind 8 grams of coffee for a filter machine and longer for a finer espresso grind.
The first dial on the left-hand side allows you to set the time of the grind. You’d think that seconds would be a low enough level to go down to but not with Sage. They allow you to set the grind time to 0.2 of a second! How is that for precision.
So if you need to grind your beans for exactly 17.4 seconds to get exactly 8 grams of coffee then you can.
The fact that you can be so precise tells you how much thought and care has gone into this machine.
Once you have got the time exactly how you like it press the dial in and it will be pre-programmed for you forever.
So you need to experiment a bit to get it just right but once you’ve got it then perfection is yours.
The button in the middle is for one or two shots. Pretty self-explanatory here. More coffee for two shots and less for one.
The dial on the side lets you choose how coarse or fine you would like the grind to be.
Ease of use 10/10
This is really easy. We would give it 11/10 if we could.
Once you have it set up just how you like it as described above you only ever have to press one button and it will provide you with ground coffee perfection every time.
Value For Money 9/10
Just because something costs a lot it doesn’t mean that is doesn’t represent good value for money.
If you are a stickler for detail and you want to get your coffee just right every time then this is not a big investment or a hard decision for something that will give you years of coffee joy.
