Delonghi has been around for well over 100 years. They are based in Treviso Italy and whilst they manufacture a broad range of appliances you can be assured that any Italian based company will incorporate their country’s passion for coffee into the products they manufacture.

Delonghi is the global leader within the Espresso machine market. They have proven to be the best in the world at what they do.

Overall Score 9.6/10

Design 9/10

The De’Longhi Dedica Style Traditional Pump Espresso Machine is a stripped back pure espresso machine certainly worthy of any kitchen

This is a very stylish no-frills coffee machine. It is a combination of matt black and stainless steel. Both blend in beautifully together.

The design and engineering of all Delonghi products still take place in Italy. They have resisted moving this side of things to China and it shows in this sleek, good looking product.

One of the things we love about this high-performance machine is that it is only 15cm wide enabling you to place it almost anywhere whilst at the same time going almost unnoticed.

Functionality 10/10

You can’t really go wrong with using this machine. Delonghi has done it again by making this machine super simple to use.

You have a water tank at the back. A cup warmer on top, 3 buttons on the front for coffee delivery and a dial on the side for steam or water. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

The portafilter for the coffee comes with 3 inserts.

The first one looks extremely shallow and at first glance, you may wonder what it’s for as it doesn’t look like it will hold enough coffee to produce a drink.

Delonghi has cleverly included this one for anyone that is looking for ultimate convenience from a professional pump espresso machine.

Use the shallow filter for Easy Serving Espresso Pods. These have become more popular in recent years and avoid the time and mess of adding ground coffee and also the bother of emptying the filter and cleaning the filter after brewing a coffee. Just take it out and throw it away.

The second filter is for one cup of coffee and the third and largest filter for two cups.

If you like a nice strong cup of coffee then you can if you prefer to, use the two cup filter to make a nice strong cappuccino or even a large Latte.

It is important for coffee to be delivered at the correct temperature to avoid a bitter taste so Delonghi has incorporated “thermoblock” technology into this machine which basically means that it will always delivery the coffee at the correct temperature.

This is an important feature that is not available on some of the cheaper espresso machines.

When the coffee is being delivered if you don’t want as much water simply press the cup button and the water will stop so you can personalise your drink to your exact requirements.

The water tank has been made so that you can attach a water filter which is great if you live in a hard water area. Limescale can have a detrimental effect on coffee taste so we would advise taking advantage of this feature and having a water filter in place at all times.

Probably the main thing to be aware of is that if you spent a long time frothing milk then the machine heats up above the optimum temperature for coffee delivery so if this happens then you have to wait for a short while for the machine to cool down before making another coffee.

This is normal for an espresso machine at this price point. If you are happy to shell out a bit more then the Sage Duo temp pro will auto cool down so you are ready to go again every time.

Ease of use 10/10

The main thing to get across with this machine is how incredibly simple it is to operate.

Once you have added the ground coffee (or a pod) to the filter then attach to the machine and simply press one button. Either the one cup button for one cup or the two cup button for two cups or a stronger one cup.

If you want hot water for an Americano then just turn the dial at the side for hot water at 90 degrees.

Want steam to froth milk? Just press the steam button on the front of the machine and then turn the dial on the side. That’s it.

The frother is also adjustable so that you can get either hot steamed milk or frothy steam milk.

Simplicity itself

Quality of coffee 10/10

If you want the very best coffee you should always freshly grind the beans yourself just before brewing.

Matching this espresso machine with great coffee and a grinder will guarantee a 10/10 coffee experience.

If you don’t have the time for that then the next best thing is to buy pre-ground coffee or for ultimate convenience, an easy serve espresso pod.

Whichever you go for this machine will deliver water at 15bar of pressure which is the scientifically accepted pressure required for a great coffee flavour.

Value For Money 9/10

There are more expensive espresso machines than this with extra features.

The De’Longhi Dedica Style Traditional Pump no-frills Espresso Machine has everything you need for everyday home coffee use and is really good value for money for the price.

Here is a short video. It explains how to make a great Americano but gives you a great idea of the simplicity that this machine offers
