These Black Donkey ESE coffee pods are proven winners when it comes to flexibility and convenience of bagged coffee that goes straight into your portafilter for hassle-free fresh coffee.

Easy Serve Espresso or ESE coffee pods are a super convenient way to deliver an espresso from your coffee machine without getting involved with the coffee.

ESE pods are particularly useful when you are short on time and allow you to have the best of both worlds with an espresso machine.

If you are in a rush first thing in the morning chuck a pod in and press the button on your coffee machine and the espresso will be delivered in seconds.

No messing about with grinding the coffee or adding the coffee to your portafilter, ESE coffee pods are as easy and convenient to use as a Nespresso coffee pod or Dolce Gusto Capsule.

The big benefit you get with ESE pods compared to the likes of Nespresso is that you get to choose whether or not you use one when making yourself a coffee with your Nespresso machine.

On a Monday morning at 7.00am you probably don’t want to be grinding your beans and tamping the coffee down and that’s the time to use a Black Donkey ESE coffee pod.

But what about on a Sunday morning when you have a little more time on your hands? You can start to develop your barista skills and get your grind size just right, practice your tamping skills and use your espresso machine to craft a perfect cappuccino or latte.

It’s important not to confuse these Black Donkey ESE coffee pods with coffee bags because although they look similar and they both have ground coffee inside them, ESE coffee pods have been formulated to be used with coffee machines whereas coffee bags are formulated to go straight into a cup of coffee just like a teabag.

Each one of these Black Donkey ESE pods contains 7 grams of coffee which is enough for a single espresso so bear that in mind when you are looking at the overall cost because you will most likely need to use two of them per cup depending on how strong you like your coffee.

The high street coffee chains like Starbucks and Costa always give you a double shot of espresso so most people are used to that and if you just use one pod and then add milk to make a cappuccino it’s going to come out pretty weak.

Never buy ESE coffee pods unless they come individually vacuum wrapped because coffee starts to lose its freshness as soon as its ground so it’s necessary to keep them sealed to keep the flavour in.

These pods do come separately wrapped and you get 4 different options to choose from:

Intenso, Supremo, Decaf or a Variety pack.

Both Intenso and Supremo are strong pods and there is little in it in terms of overall strength between the two but they do have different flavour profiles.

Whichever option you choose to get there are 50 pods in total in the pack and if you go for the variety pack you get 25 x Intenso and 25 x Supremo.

If you have never tried them before then the Variety pack is the way to go so you can decide which one you like the best for the next time you order.

Verdict

If you want to make a fresh cup of espresso, cappuccino or latte but sometimes you just don’t have the time or inclination to do all the preparation yourself then these Easy Serve Espresso Pods from Black Donkey are well worth a try.
