If you like a cappuccino or a latte but you don’t have a coffee machine with a steam wand then the Lavazza milk frother is the simplest and most effective way to heat and froth your milk at the touch of a button.
There is a lot of choice when it comes to milk frothers and its difficult to know how to select the right one when they essentially do the same thing – heat up your milk.
There are a lot of unbranded Chinese versions that you can never be certain will stay the distance.
Lavazza on the other hand are a household name and they have a reputation to uphold so if you are unsure whether or not to try a slightly cheaper alternative then you may be better off sticking with a trusted brand like Lavazza or Dualit
Lavazza are known worldwide for their coffee and would not put their name to a milk frother that did not uphold the high standards that they set for themselves.
All milk frothers have a similar level of functionality and allow you to either heat milk without frothing, heat milk with frothing or froth cold milk.
All of them will do that so what are the things that separates the good milk frothers from the bad?
· Does it heat the milk up to the right temperature?
· How frothy is the milk?
· What is the capacity?
There is only one button that you need to press with 3 different settings.
1 press gives you hot frothy milk that within around 2 minutes gives you a thick creamy froth that is perfect for cappuccino’s and latte’s
2 quick presses of the same button and it will heat your milk up but not into a thick froth but a lovely aerated creamy textured milk perfect for a flat white or just a straight white coffee if those are your drinks of choice. A long press will froth up cold milk.
Its important that any milk frother heats the milk up to between 60-65 degree’s which is the ideal temperature for any milk based espresso drink.
Some of the cheaper Chinese alternatives may not achieve this and will only heat the milk up to a luke warm temperature so beware of that.
Lavazza understand the importance of having your coffee at the right temperature so you can be assured of 65 degrees everytime with this Lavazza milk frother.
It will swivel 360 degrees on its base as well and has a ribbed design which makes it easy to grip.
The easiest way to keep it clean is to put it in the sink and run a fast tap into the milk reservoir for about 5 seconds. A quick wipe with a piece of kitchen towel and that will keep it as new for years.
Bearing in mind that milk will double in volume when volume when heated and frothed and even more when only heated, you can fill it with 120ml for milk frothing and 180ml for heating only which will be fine for a couple of cappuccinos at a time.
The Lavazza milk frother will also work well for hot chocolate, just add some cocoa powder to the milk during the heating process and the cold frothing option is great for milkshakes.
It will work particularly well in conjunction with a stove top coffee machine or cafetiere or even with a Tassimo coffee machine because their milk capsules are powdered milk and coffee tastes so much better with fresh milk.
Overall you get a good froth at the right temperature and those two things alone make it worth spending a few pounds more than the cheaper Chinese alternatives that may or may not be ok but you do roll the dice and take your chances if you decide to go down that road.
