Overall Score 9.4/10

Design 10/10

Sage is well known for their high quality design led coffee machines and this one does not disappoint.

This is a stunning looking coffee machine.

Brushed stainless steel all over gives this coffee machine a very high-quality look. No plastic except for the black base which blends beautifully and seamlessly with the stainless steel body.

It is a very minimalist design with literally 2 buttons and 1 dial.

The tamper is neatly designed to fit on the front of the machine for easy access.  It has also been carefully designed to maintain the clean modern look of the entire machine.

When you take it out of the box it just feels like a good solid high quality product. Even the portafilter feels about twice as heavy as the average.

What you can’t see by looking at the picture is that the drip tray pulls out to reveal a clever storage area for extra filters and perhaps a few stirrers.

Nothing has been skimped on with the Duo Temp Pro Espresso Machine. For us, this is design perfection.

This machine measures up at 26(W) X 30(D) X 33(H)

Functionality 9/10

Despite the very simple controls the complex beauty of this coffee machine sits locked away inside the device itself.

It is important to understand what you are getting here for your money which is not visible to the naked eye.

In order to get the perfect coffee, the water needs to be delivered through the coffee at 93 degrees centigrade.

Sage have devised a heating system which regulates the water at the exact optimum temperature for a perfect coffee, every time.

They also have a “pre-infusion” period. What that means is that before the water is delivered through the coffee into the cup you will notice a short delay. During this delay, the coffee is being moistened to make sure there is an even distribution of water all over the coffee to make sure the correct concentrated dose of coffee is extracted.

These small important things which are not immediately obvious is what you are paying for.

Some of the cheaper machines will be very hot after the first espresso delivered so if you want another one straight away then it will be too hot and could impair the quality of the coffee. Not with the Sage BES810BSS Duo Temp Pro. As soon as the dial is turned back to off it will automatically cool itself down to make sure the next coffee is delivered at exactly 93 degrees. Very cool!

Something else we really like is the water filter holder inside the water tank that allows you to attach a water filter directly inside the water container to reduce limescale to the minimum.

A fascinating coffee machine where the internal functionality is more important to understand than the external.

Ease of use 10/10

This is about as simple as it gets.

Once the power is on and the portafilter is locked in place you turn the dial to the left to begin the coffee delivery. Turn it back to the middle once you have the desired amount of coffee in your cup.

If your drink of choice is an espresso or americano you are done.

If you are looking for a latte or cappuccino then simply turn the dial to the right to get the steam going. When you start to see some steam coming out turn the dial back to the middle and you are ready to steam your milk.

It doesn’t get any easier than this and so the Sage the Duo Temp Pro Espresso Machine gets full marks here.

Quality of coffee 10/10

A coffee machine of this quality will produce coffee which is precisely the correct temperature to give the optimum flavour but it will only be perfect if you match it with high quality fresh coffee.

The freshest and best coffee comes from freshly ground coffee beans. You can find some of the best beans available here.

A high quality burr grinder is a good match for this coffee machine we recommend the Sage smart grinder pro.

Combining this machine with high quality coffee and a great grinder will ensure a 10/10 coffee experience.

Value For Money 8/10

This is Sage’s entry level pump espresso machine and does come with a price tag synonymous with the Sage brand.

There are cheaper machines available but this is a high end product that will give you years of pleasure.

If you are a firm believer of “you get what you pay for” then this may be the machine you are looking for.
